I don’t straighten my hair often but when I do I need a tool that will be easy for me to use since when it comes to hair I’m all butter fingers! I was happy when I was contacted to test out a GHD hair staightener to see if a novice like me could figure it out.
I was asked to choose which colour I wanted of the limited edition candy collection and of course I chose the violet!
First off – can I just say how FAST this thing heats up? Usually with flat irons I plug them in then do my makeup so that by the time I’m done it’s warmed up. This thing was hot in literally 20 seconds! It actually beeps and the indicator light flashes to let you know it’s ready to use.
Just in case you don’t recall what my hair normally looks like here is my curly hair:
I don’t really have a strict technique for straightening my hair but in general no matter if you have super curly, wavy or even pretty straight hair to begin with you should always use a flat iron on dry hair or you could essential fry it! As you know I have a lazy girl’s approach to beauty so if I’m going to straighten my hair my hair was worn curly that day or the day before – meaning I won’t blow dry it just to straighten it.
I like to start by putting all my hair up except for a bit at the bottom and then just straightening the hair in layers. I keep a brush or comb handy to combat any tangles before running the flat iron through. Always start as close to the scalp at you can without burning yourself and keep the iron closed for the entire length of the hair strand.
Repeat for each layer until you are completed! I always add some product to smooth down the top as I usually have some fly aways.
And here is a “selfie” I took before an event with newly straightened hair:
It’s always fun to try out new hair styles, I feel weirdly like a different person when I have different hair – haha!. With straight hair I can usually go 2 – 3 days without washing it and I try to change up the style with maybe a small braid or putting it up in a really high, sleek pony tail.
