I spent the past weekend at Viamede Resort and I couldn’t have had a better time. Sometimes you don’t realize when you need to take some time for yourself and just slowing it down for the weekend was exactly what I needed.
We had intended to head out early afternoon on Friday, but as usual things happen and we didn’t head out until the dreaded rush hour. Let me tell you, if you’re trying to ever head out of the city for a weekend getaway do yourself a favour – either leave super early or leave late! Due to some back ups and our GPS taking us on some back roads a 2 hour drive turned into 4! Luckily my husband and I are used to each other’s company 😉
When we finally arrived it was quite late. We headed out to the Boathouse Pub where we caught Karoke night! Before you ask, no I didn’t get up and sing my heart out. I wanted to but…it’s hard for me to let go of my inhibitions…I have to be REALLY comfortable and even with those I’ve known for years I need time to warm up 😉 There is a different activity each night at the pub so it’s the perfect place to wind down your day.
The next day was when I really got to enjoy and explore the resort. I woke up and had a lovely buffet breakfast in the 1885 dining room. Breakfast by the way – normally buffet but sometimes a la carte (unless there is an event) is included everyday of your stay! The top curved balcony was where my room was and below to the left is the balcony of 1885.
The food at 1885 was amazing. I really enjoyed the buffet breakfast and a special buffet dinner there put together by executive chef Kevin McKenna.
As I mentioned in my previous Viamede Resort post pets are welcome too! I’m going to assume this generally applies to dogs. I’m not sure cat owners usually travel with their kitties but if you do please let me know – I’d be curious to know how you do it!
The above is a photo of Ben Samann the (young) owner of Viamede Resort playing fetch with his dog Toby! I fell in love with Toby. I watched him and snapped a ton of photos of him playing in the water!
Look at him go! And here’s a great one of him swimming in Stony Lake.
Ahhh I could have watched him all day long 🙂 I finally got to meet him in the lobby later when he was all dry.
There are so many activities to keep you busy at Viamede Resort. The pool wasn’t open yet (I think it was probably too chilly for a swim anyway!) but you could take out the boats! Canoes, kayaks and even stand up paddle boards were available. We decided to go for a walk on the grounds.
I absolutely love weddings which is probably why I love working with Blush Pretty. I think if I were to have another wedding I’d love to have a quaint and small wedding in the Viamede wedding chapel. Perhaps for my 10th anniversary next year? 😉
Being on the trails was so peaceful. It’s a great way to spend an hour or two just getting some exercise in and enjoying nature. We have a lot of great parks in Toronto but I think when you’re still close to home you have all these responsibilities taunting you; so getting out of the city is when you can truly let go and relax.
One of my absolute favourite features of the resort was the balcony right off the rooms of the main building. Can you imagine waking up to this each morning? I had some peaceful moments of just reading and having a coffee on this balcony.
The weather this weekend was ABSOLUTELY perfect! In the afternoon a bunch of us had some patio time on one of the balconies – it was great meeting new people and catching up with others – Viamede Resort is a great place to go to with a bunch of friends too!
The rates are very reasonable especially when breakfast is included! If you’re looking to book a cottage this summer I highly recommend Viamede Resort. In fact, if you do decide to book for a long weekend just mention this blog post and you’ll receive 10% off your booking price PLUS a complimentary bottle of wine for your room!
