The obsession with BB creams in the cosmetics industry still continues. Two of the most popular posts on Toronto Beauty Reviews are Ashley’s “Battle of the BB Creams” part 1 and part 2. Of the “main stream” BB creams my favourite continues to be the Marcelle one which I reviewed last year. As popular as BB creams are they are unfortunately not ideal for me as I need coverage!
Since becoming a regular to the Pure + Simple spa I was introduced to a line they carry – Jane Iredale.
I’ve actually tried out few products from this line. The PurePressed Base gets rave reviews from Tracy at Beauty Reflections. I like this pressed powder as it does a great job of mattifying but I can’t seem to get enough product on my brush for a full coverage application. I’ve also tried out the Amazing Base which I love for a quick application. It gave great overall coverage and once I kick this whole break out thing I will definitely be repurchasing this product for my everyday foundation. For acne however, it was difficult to spot cover with this product as it ended up looking cakey and would kind of flake off at the end of the day.
Since I need heavy duty all over coverage, I was researching foundations with great coverage but none of them were “natural” and they were filled with chemicals. I was scared about this as I didn’t want to cause further irritation to my skin. At around this time, (good timing for me!) Jane Iredale had just come out with their BB cream. I was able to get samples from Pure + Simple to test out first before investing. Jane Iredale products are great but they are NOT easy on the wallet!
Claims:
Glow time is a full coverage BB cream which is quite different from most other BB creams that tend to have the coverage of a tinted moisturizer or a light to medium coverage foundation. It protects the skin with an SPF of 25 and claims to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and pores and may fade pigmentation over time. It also claims to exfoliate the skin, is moisturizing and soothes and calms the skin. It’s also water resistant.

While I can’t attest for the exfoliation and reduction in pigmentation parts it definitely does not highlight my pores, it’s not drying and it doesn’t irritate my skin. Those with sensitivities to silicones however may want to test a bit out first.
I tested out two colours – BB5 and BB7.
Left: BB5 // Right: BB7
Colours:
Sorry for the weird swatches. I didn’t want to waste my samples LOL! You can see there is a HUGE difference between the two. Unfortunately for me the BB5 is too light and the BB7 is slightly too yellow for me so I had to mix the two together. I wouldn’t say the colour is PERFECT on me but it’s not too noticeable. Glow Time comes in 6 colours – BB1, BB3, BB5, BB7, BB9 and BB11.
Coverage and My Technique:
The coverage of this product is amazing! It can be kind of hard to spread. It’s thicker than other BB creams and I feel like you need to work quickly before it sets on it’s own. When I was at Pure + Simple for their midnight madness sale Samantha Compton was on site – she is a makeup artist and Jane Iredale Educator. She said to apply the foundation with a brush but I find it’s too hard for me to spread with my brush – I must be doing something wrong! I prefer to use my fingers (but it can be messy); however lately I’ve been using my beauty blender sponge.
I’ve actually been applying the BB5 all over my face as it’s really good at minimizing the redness that I have then going over lightly with BB7 to further cover and get a more even finish. I then set it with the PurePressed Base (because I still have some left) and finish off with Jurlique Lavender Silk Finishing Powder (which I bought at the Pure + Simple Midnight Madness Sale)
Wrap up:
This BB cream is definitely my go-to foundation right now. I still tend to get quite oily and need to blot throughout the day. I do have to touch up my makeup a bit throughout the day (I actually just do this with clean fingers – patting the spots where the foundation has creased) but this has been the best for me in terms of wear. So many other foundation are completely gone by noon for me and I essentially have to reapply my whole face 🙁
For those of you that don’t have too much to cover up this BB cream might be too heavy for you although I’m sure a lighter hand could be used in application. I would even recommend this as a concealer since a little goes a long way and it stays put for most of the day. I do wish they had more colours and my other complaint is the price. Especially since I had to purchase TWO and mix them to get the right shade. But, I’m willing to shell out the dough for the coverage I get with this product and knowing that it’s probably one of the “healthier” foundations for my skin.
What are your thoughts on Jane Iredale? If you found something that worked for you would you be willing to spend the money?
