I’m not really huge on Valentine’s Day – just personally preference really! But I won’t deny everyone else the romantic sentiment of the day 😉
I asked some of my friends and contributors to share with me some of their memorable Valentine’s moments.
Laura’s Story:
My first valentines day with my hubby is probably the most memorable. I had to have surgery my tonsils needed to be removed it was super painful and I was so bummed that our first Valentine’s Day would be spent with me on a liquid diet and drugged up on pain killers LOL!
Well my hubby (who at the time was my boyfriend) stayed with me for an extended long weekend to console me and on Valentine’s Day he stepped out saying he wanted to go grab a coffee and work on some things at Starbucks.
I kept complaining that I felt my breath stunk and needed scope LOL (if you’ve ever had your tonsils out you will know what I mean!); He came back with a little bag filled with chocolates and random cute things including a giant bottle of Scope and a rose! It made me laugh and totally made my day. By far one of the most memorable Valentine’s we have spent together. The material things are great but for me the thoughtful and unexpected moments are a million times better!

My favourite Valentine’s Day memory would have to be when my husband and I utilized some of our gift cards and spent only $20 for the entire evening. It was not intentional at first, we just always put off using vouchers and cards because it’s a nice feeling to think we have them “stored up.”
It started off with a semi-fancy evening at Del Dente’s (by the Charcoal Steakhouse) in Kitchener, Ontario. We had something that covered the cost of our meals and we ordered whatever we liked.
While enjoying our main course, we played a people-watching game where we looked at all the couples around us and tried to figure out who was married, had been dating awhile or were just getting to know each other. It might have been a little creepy but was ridiculously fun.
To top it off I also came across a gift card for the movies, which covered most of the cost for both of us to watch. The only money we spent was to cover the tip for the waiter at the restaurant!
An elegant meal plus a funny movie for $20? Now that is a thrifty Valentine’s Day if I do say so myself!
My partner and I don’t really celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. We recognize that it’s a nice opportunity to spend some quality time together, but we also recognize that it’s the worst day of the year to make a dinner reservation 😉 Instead, we like to stay in, cuddle on the couch, and spend some time with our other loves – our two cats!
Last year, we spent the day marathoning House of Cards on Netflix. We took breaks to make some popcorn and go to the washroom, but otherwise, we planted ourselves on the couch, under a blanket, with purring kitties on our laps. It was probably one of the best St. Valentine’s Days I’ve ever had.
