Way back when I was in University I couldn’t really afford to get my hair done but unfortunately for me having curly hair a quick cut at First Choice Hair cutters or better yet, getting my roommates to do it was not going to happen!
I don’t even remember how I discovered them but I used to get my hair done by students of the Aveda Institute in Toronto. These students were talented and were always working under the guidance and supervision of an expert so I felt comfortable. The price was right – if I recall about $30 for a really great cut and style. The only drawback was time. It definitely took longer than a usual hair appointment as the students would get feedback from their supervisor at each step. This was no big deal to me, being a student I had nowhere important to go, my life consisted of reading!
When I heard that the Aveda Institute Hair School was holding a video contest with the winners earning a full scholarship to hair school I had to help get the word out. There are so many talented hair artists in Canada I think they just need help to get their foot in the door.
The contest started December 1st and runs until March 31st 2012 so there’s still plenty of time to enter.
All you have to do is make a video telling everyone why you were “Born to Style” and why you have the talent, passion and determination to study at Aveda Institute Canada. Once you’ve made the video, upload it to the Aveda site and share it with everyone and get them to rate your video and spread the news!
A panel consisting of Aveda faculty as well as beauty and hair experts will then pick 5 contestants from each of the following cities: Toronto, Calgary,
Vancouver and Victoria.
The most fun part about the competition is the next step! These future hairdressers will go head to head during a live runway show putting complete looks together where a panel of style and hairstyling experts will then choose the winners! The winner in each city will win a full scholarship to the Aveda Institute hair school!
I love that this competition will give all those talented artists out there a chance to showcase what they can do! I’m looking forward to following the competition and seeing the finalists and winners!
