It seems everyone is trying to hang on to summer – understandably so! The summer in Toronto hasn’t quite been what we’re used to. Alysia is no exception. This beach bum craves the sun and since she couldn’t get away this summer she shares her tips on how to make it look like she was just at the beach with some Clarins summer glow products.

With summer quickly fading away, I had to re-think how I can still get some colour when the sun no longer wants to shine. Most bronzers or shall I say faux-glow or sunless tanners, usually leave your fingers (and face) orange or you end up smelling like barbequed chicken. Clarins came out with a made-to-measure self-tanner that must be mixed with one of their moisturizer. Luckily I had some on hand.
Clarins Radiance-Plus Glow Booster
This small bottle has some power to it. With only three drops mixed in with the Clarins HydraQuench Cream and when applied evenly, it really adds colour to my face. Since using it, many people have complimented me on my “tan” (my body has tanned nicely over the course of the summer, but as you know, the face seems to fade faster than the body). You can intensify your tan by adding 3 drops but if you only need to maintain your glow, 2 drops will do. What I like most about this self-tanner is that it doesn’t smell horrible and I also noticed and instant glow to my face. I am definitely going to use this product going into the fall.
This cream for normal to dry skin has a very light texture and hydrates with a small amount even though it’s extremely creamy. It includes katafray bark extract (exclusive to Clarins) which enhances the production of natural moisturizers and hyaluronic acid that maintains moisture within the skin’s layers. I typically don’t like using cream in the summer because I feel that too much moisture leads to my face looking oily by the afternoon. Since this product is very light in texture, it adds enough moisture to hydrate my skin without the greasy feeling.
The combination of the Glow Booster and HydraQuench Cream makes for a great self-tanner for the face. There is no streaking, no orange tint and it leaves a healthy glow from the moisture of the cream
{Editor’s Note: The Glow Booster can also be mixed with your favourite moisturizer – start off with a small amount first and work up to 3 drops when you’re comfortable with the product}
Now that I have a sun-kissed face, I feel like I don’t need to wear much makeup. I add a little blush, curl my lashes and I am almost good to go with a natural look for work. But I could always add a little more “oomph”.
Clarins Truly Waterproof Mascara (01 Intense Black)
I am all for waterproof mascara – it is longer lasting and will hold a curl. I tried this mascara and its application added volume and length but did not coat on thick. This is ideal for daily use or even on the beach. I say it’s great for the beach because lashes are protected from the effects of seawater and pool water with its formulation of bitter orange tree wax and olive squalane oil. At the end of the day, I forgot that I had this mascara on and while in the shower, I had the worst time washing my face. The mascara would not budge and come off. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not a bad thing – it’s a good thing…this means that when you are in the pool or at the beach, this mascara will hold its own for 12 hours and not come off!
Clarins Lip Balm Crayon (03 Tender Coral)
The lip balm consists of nourishing plant waxes and melts onto lips adding moisture and provides full lips with comfort. It did glide on smoothly with a high shine finish. I am a huge fan of crayon type lip balms but this certain one didn’t last very long and I actually found it drying out my lips. The colour is great, as I find coral is a wonderful summer shade.
Overall, I like this whole look with the products I used above. My only disappointment was the lip crayon. I still might give the crayon another try because I really like how well it looked with my Clarins summer glow.
What are you doing to keep your summer glow going into fall?
