Since TIFF is in town the Fashion Magazine Beauty Panel was asked to put together their red carpet hair or makeup look. I didn’t have time to figure out what to do with my hair but I decided to go bold with the makeup.
Definitely not makeup I would do on an everyday basis as I decided to go really bold with both the eyes AND the lips for my submission.
This is usually a “no, no”. Normally you want to balance everything out by picking one statement feature but I thought that for the red carpet when photos are being taken and there are bright lights everywhere you should go bold with both so as to not be washed out.
Burgundy is a really big colour for the fall – I actually tried to incorporate a bit on the eyes along with a really smoky purple eye and of course strong black liner. If I could put on fake lashes then this would definitely be the time to use them!
For the lips I chose a blue based red to make sure the smile is camera ready. Make sure there is NO lipstick on your teeth – that’s the the worst!
For my eyes I used a palette that was customized for me from Sweetgrass Spa. I used the lightest colour as my base then the purple colour up to my crease and the grey colour just to darken the edges. I added just a touch of Covergirl’s Flamed Out Eyeshadow pencil in “Flamed Out” at the lash line which I smudged into the lashes before adding my liner. This was just to add a touch of something more dramatic and deep to the lash line. For my liner I used L’Oreal Infalliable Superslim 12H liner. This liner has a super precise tip so you can get a really thin line or a really thick line. It also stays in place so you won’t have to worry about unsightly smudges.
If you’re being photographed it’s important to contour the cheeks with a bronzer and add some pink in to the apples to make them appear higher. I used this bronzer from Covergirl. I added this bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, on my jaw line, around my hair line and down my nose. For blush I used Benefit’s Rockateur which is a nice rose gold colour.
I actually kept it really simple for the lips. I lined and filled them in with Caryl Baker’s lip pencil in “Desire” and then added “Corruption” lipgloss on top.
