Yup – outdoor shots! But yes, I didn’t REALLY venture out of the comfort of my home, these were taken on my balcony
Hmmm…Ok so I took these shots a couple of weeks ago – and I think I attempted to do it again ONCE since then
I completely admire you style bloggers that are able to take shots, not only outside but in really cool places with great backgrounds! I bow down to you!
I did actually take a lot of pictures, but only a few turned out – I could see how un-relaxed I was taking these LOL!
Shirt: LOFT size XXSP (as seen in this post with links to other bloggers)
Skirt: Ann Taylor Factory size 0P (see my review over at FitReview.com)
Shoes: Nine West size 7
Necklace: mark by Avon (Canadians the link is here; Americans the link is here – international: check your country’s Avon website!)
Earrings: Birks
Earrings: Birks
I love this skirt, it fits me so nicely – no alterations needed! I love the print too, pretty for Spring and Summer but I think because of the black I can make it work with tights for the colder months too.
The top is one of my favorites – it’s so comfortable like a t-shirt but the pretty sleeves make it seem like it’s dressy! And of course the necklace – I’ve been wearing this necklace almost everyday. It seems to go with everything!
The above shot is the really the only full length shot I was able to get – LOL I look sooo uncomfortable
Ok style bloggers, what’s your secret to taking pictures outdoors? Do you just not care if people stare at you? Are you taking the pictures with a self timer (like I am) or is someone taking the pictures for you?

I love your necklace and how you’ve paired it with a t-shirt in the same colour family. And that skirt is the ideal pairing. It kind of reminds me of a city skyline at night! I’m lucky to have people take pictures and I just try to ignore anyone walking by! I ALWAYS feel awkward posing though!
that is a fabulous necklace!

I love the outdoor pics….don’t worry you will get the hang of it! I usually just find a place where there is little to no people which is virtually impossible..LOL Love the outfit and the necklace!
It’s hard enough to pose without looking or feeling silly…never mind having other people watch you. Good for you for venturing out of your comfort zone. Pretty soon you’ll be a pro at outdoor shots like the other petites!
Aww, you look so pretty in these pics Elaine! And I love how that necklace seems to go with absolutely everything!
Elaine..Elaine…how I love your skirt sooooo. It looks exotic and very unique. That necklace is very pretty too.
Yeah..I used to think that people probably can’t keep up with a daily post (5 days max for me) but heck I will do what my heart desires because it is my blog. I got past that point of worrying about what people think
You look so pretty, Elaine!
@Pingyou are another outdoor shot master
@Cee tweeted you already but my husband’s the same. Takes him sooo long to get the “perfect” shot!
@Melissa Gah you’re so sweet!
@Style Journey So great that you have your daughters AND husband to help you out!
Such a cute outfit! I love everything about it from the skirt, the top and that awesome necklace!
Usually one of my daughters takes my photos or if the hubby is around he will. But I DO NOT venture anywhere but my back or front yards. My neighbors busted me the other day.
You look gorgeous! I think that skirt could definitely work in colder weather too.
I don’t think you look uncomfortable at all! Just beautiful.
I promise you’ll soon get the hang of outdoor shots. Nothing beats natural lighting! I like how your balcony has a divider between units. No peekaboo from the neighbors, lol. I take my own shots indoors and outside with a self-timer too. Even if bf was around, I probably would still prefer to take my own shots b/c he takes forever to frame and click. And by then I could’ve taken 10 shots on my own, hahaha. Shhh don’t tell him I said that
i love outdoor photography because my room is so freaking boring. it can get intimidating when there are people around, but you’ll learn to ignore them. haha!
AHH! Great job Elaine! I hope you post some more! I really want to venture out past my back patio too, but I would be so embarassed to lug my tripod around and people watching me as I took my photos. I wish I was one of those bloggers whose BFs/husbands took their photos for them.
Great skirt too, love the print!!
@*elvi* OMG I know I was wearing a pencil skirt yesterday and it was soooo hot! The lining was STICKING to me!
@questforfashionsense Aww I love hearing when significant others will take bloggers shots – it’s like a team effort
@Tara Thanks Tara! I could definitely see you adding this one to your collection
@PetiteLittleGirl You always look amazing in your outdoor shots! Is your husband helping with taking the photos?
@Aishah YAY a fellow Avon rep! I know right, a lot of people think Avon is very dated – it’s really not at all!
@Make Mommy Chic Sharon you are making my day! Thank you so much! LOL well you get great poses out of all your dancing in the backyard
@kileen You are definitely a master at the self outdoor shots Kileen!
@PetiteAsianGirl Thanks for the vote of confidence though I’m not sure I will ever make it to Kileen’s level
@newpetite NY really? Well I’ve never been before, but it’s the Toronto Lake condos in the back
@Cher It’s good that you have the remote though, I only have the self timer to work with so I often get really weird shots of myself LOL!
@Michelle Awww, sweet of your husband! Most times when I take my pictures my husband isn’t even home yet! LOL I used to do the coughing thing too! hahaha! Luckily I discovered a mute function on my camera
@Olyvia I know, the necklace just goes with any outfit! (hence why I’m ALWAYS wearing it
) LOL I do the same, thinking I could really get some cool poses and shots in a certain place but then I think to myself “who am I kidding!”
I love that you are wearing something from Avon! I am an Avon representative in the US and I think people just aren’t aware of the cool things we sell.
Such a fun outfit, Elaine! Your skirt is very unique. I like how the necklace blended well with the rest of your outfit. I am still trying how to be comfortable taking outdoor photos. Believe me, I know when my neighbors are out and when they’re home =) I guess we just have to put on a brave face and do it.
What a super fun skirt! I adore the pattern on it, and the necklace is the perfect finishing touch
Lovely outfit, Elaine! I usually take pictures inside; if a picture us taken outdoors, it’s usually my husband who’s taken the picture. I definitely give props to the self-shot picture takers.
What a great skirt!! If it wasn’t so hot I would keep on wearing pencil skirts all summer. You look fabulous!
This outfit is perfection! I’m just in love with that necklace, it does matches everything you wear! I still take pictures in the comfort of my bedroom for my blog, although when I go places now, I keep thinking in my head….wow this place would be great for a background for blogs…haha, but yeah, I won’t be doing that for real anytime soon
Loving this outfit! I can see why you love that skirt! And that necklace looks amazing with that skirt!! Like Jean said…brings out the pattern in the skirt!
Lol! No worries about the picture-taking…I am a scaredy cat, too! :p Ever since my first few tries taking pictures using the piano as my stand in for a tripod, my husband has volunteered his services…so we just walk to the backyard. When I am in the dressing room, I do a little cough when I turn on my camera because it makes a tiny noise. And no flash! :p
I only take the tripod out when I don’t think anyone will see me or when I’m feeling extremely brave! LOL. Outdoor photos are so much easier when someone is taking the photos for you. But since I don’t have anyone to do that for me, my readers are stuck with me and my remote control, which doesn’t always make for great photos, but hey, at least I’m posting.
And I love the outfit combo!
Love the skirt! Looks like the NY Skyline!
Elaine…first these uncomfortable shots on your private deck, but with a little practice you’ll be out on the streets posing in no time. Though most of us can never do what miss Kileen does! Tripoding it out on the streets takes so much bravery.
Your necklace brings out the pattern in the skirt so nicely!
these are great first outdoor shots!! i definitely practiced taking pictures outside my home for the first 4 months or so before i ventured out. it gets better with practice, especially when you’re doing self-photography!
and i love this skirt! what a great pattern and i love how you styled it with a pretty blouse.

Elaine you are just so darn super duper cute. I love the skirt and the necklace combo. I actually take shots in the comfort of my own backyard, I have a tripod and put it timer and put it on shutter speed and dance around like an idiot before my kids come home. You look great posing! Thanks for the post
