When you hear “nude”, what shade comes to mind? Off white? Light beige? Maybe something with a blush undertone? Well, if you’re a POC like me, then those shades are too light to be considered nude. Unfortunately, many companies continue to market “nude” products, forgetting that so many of us don’t fall into a spectrum of beige. As a brown girl, I have a hard time finding that nude pump, a pretty nude lipstick, and I certainly never found nude undergarments – black bras it is!
{Love & Nudes Lingerie}
Through the month of November, #ownyourtone is a crowdfunding event that’s bringing awareness (and funding) to one area of beauty that can sometimes be overlooked – undergarments. Love & Nudes is Canada’s only lingerie line for women of colour. Your purchase of a bralette and panty set will help fund the development of the premiere collection. Sets will be available in shades called honey, espresso, nutmeg, and butterscotch and are available in jersey or lace. Starting next year, POCs like me don’t have to be forced to wear black in order to wear that white shirt or sheer blouse – we can have nude shades, too!
Check out their Facebook page for interviews from women of colour in our communities, talking about how they navigate through life as women of colour. If you’d like to get your hands on a set when they become available, check out their Indiegogo campaign here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/skintone-intimates-for-women-of-colour
Personally, I think it’s about time that we start having more equal representation out there and I’m thrilled to support this line. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a shift towards more inclusion in the world of “nude tones”. I look forward to owning MY tone when I get my hands on a set! 😉
