It’s no secret that my favorite place in Toronto for facials is Pure + Simple. Well just when I thought I couldn’t love them anymore they come out with this fabulous new treatment called Aquabrasion!
I’m sure many of you are familar with microdermabrasion which is an EXCELLENT method to remove dead skin from the surface and cleaning out pores revealing a more radiant you…however when you have sensitive skin that’s constantly breaking out like I do, microdermabrasion isn’t the most comfortable method to try out!
When I first heard about the new Aquabrasion that would be offered at Pure + Simple I quickly changed my already booked facial to this new service. And I have no regrets – none.
So you all want to know what it is right? Well it’s a water exfoliation treatment that uses water and high pressure jets to do the work. It’s a very gentle but effective deep peel and anti-aging facial that uses really fine jets of water to exfoliate, hydrate and oxygenate all in one step! Aquabrasion uses saline solution (so it’s sterile and medical grade). Salt is naturally antiseptic and antibacterial plus it’s great at flushing out impurities.
What are the benefits? So, so many! The machine is equipped with a high precision wand that targets problem areas and can flush out black heads, smooth out lines, and clarifies congested skin (mine!) without causing redness. Really.
Shari, my regular facialist at P+S was so great about talking me through the treatment and what to expect. The treatment itself kind of felt like a pressure washer on my face – ummm not that I’ve ever taken a pressure washer to my face (that’s dangerous kids!) but you kind of get the idea of what to expect. The water felt more like a mist than jets and it was a bit of an odd feeling when it came close to my nose – instinctively I took a deep breath and held it but Shari assured me that no water would go up my nose! It didn’t hurt at all and it was actually very refreshing and soothing after my extractions. Shari commented that my skin looked so hydrated!
After my treatment I was SHOCKED that my face wasn’t red!!! Usually after a facial my face looks AWFUL from the necessary extractions but my face actually looked healthy (ok minus all the break outs – but if they weren’t there I’d glowing – ha!). My skin also felt super soft and smooth.
The next couple of days after I still noticed a difference in the “plumpness” of my skin – I most definitely looked healthier and less dehydrated. Even my mom commented that my skin looked better! I don’t have very many lines (yet) on my face but I do have some fine lines in the eye area and I felt that they were less noticable – perhaps adding to my healthier appearance as I didn’t look as tired!
If my skin were in better condition I would show you a before and after but since I’m too self conscious and I want you to keep coming back I won’t 😛
I really LOVE this treatment. Since my skin is so congested I’m going to book more appointments for the next few weeks and then hopefully I can book less regularly to maintain. It’s actually gentle enough on your skin that you could get this treatment done once a week for a year! (But, who can afford that?)
So you want to run out and try it right?
Well there are two services available:

- Aquabrasion lymph drainage – The Aquabrasion jet is used to massage pressure points in the face + neck to encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.
- Aquabrasion peel – This exfoliating step removes build-up and smoothes fine lines, brightening the skin.
- Skin toning + moisturizing – This final step seals in moisture + protects the skin after its surface cells have been removed.
Deluxe Aquabrasion Facial ($179, 60 minutes): The deluxe treatment takes Aquabrasion one step further to offer a full-length facial and a relaxing mask + scalp massage.
Includes:

- Aquabrasion lymph drainage – The Aquabrasion jet is used to massage pressure points in face + neck to encourage lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.
- Aquabrasion peel – This exfoliating step removes build-up and smoothes fine lines, brightening the skin.
- Extractions – Extra attention is given to the pores to relieve congested skin.
- Aquabrasion serum infusion – A highly-concentrated anti-aging serum is deeply infused into the skin using the Aquabrasion jet wand.

I would highly recommend going the deluxe facial route if you have congested and acneic skin like mine – if your skin is pretty good and you just want to maintain then the regular facial should be good enough (but you’ll be missing out on the AMAZING scalp massage!).
For the month of August the Aquabrasion facial is just $99 and the Deluxe is just $149! This is a great price to try it at! There are also packages offered so that you can buy a few services at once and save some money! I took advantage of these packages this week and bought myself a few sessions 🙂
So what do you think? Are you going to try it out for yourself? If you do I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts! Remember, you can always leave a comment, email me (elainea@torontobeautyreviews.com), tweet me on twitter or catch me on facebook (admittedly – I don’t check FB as often as I should though!).
