Recently, I made a trip to my local Sephora. I had a gift card outstanding, and was looking to pick up a ‘neutral’ palette. I went in blind – I didn’t have a specific brand or palette in mind, I just knew that I wanted one! I came across this Sephora Primal Instincts palette, and instantly fell in love.
The outside of the case – very nice snake-skin pattern!

What It Is: “…collection of neutral shades combined with smoky mattes; can be used wet or dry”
Review: I absolutely love the colouring of this palette. I would even go as far as to say that this palette is one of the best I’ve ever owned. The shadows are highly pigmented – you don’t need a lot of product to make the colour stand out.
I love that the palette provides a bunch of ‘neutral colours’, but it also provides a punch of purple-based tones that can help jazz up any eye colour. The two colours at the right side (very end), are matte colours – used wet, these can work as eyeliners.
Another photo of the palette, and it comes with a mirror compact.
Most of the colours have flecks of light reflectors or ‘sparkles’ in them. They definitely catch the light and help bring out your eye features. I personally love the shimmer that these colours provide, but I can understand that some might be a little much for day. Just use a little less product and you should be fine.
Swatches: See here for my swatches. Look how gloriously pigmented and shimmery they are:
Row One: Beige No.8; Sand; Gold
Row Two: Apricot; Tea Rose; Taupe
Row Three: Matte Brown
Row One: Camel; Bronze; Mahogany
Row Two: Deep Burgundy; Plum; Steel
Row Three: Must Have No. 6
Verdict: If you buy one palette this season, make it this one. The price is outstanding, and it’s by far the best Sephora brand product I have ever bought. The price of this product is a definite win. I couldn’t believe the price when I saw it.

This product is quite possibly the best thing I’ve used this summer. I use it daily – it’s great for a subtle work look, and it’s even better for playing up for evening. My favourite colours to blend / use are the Apricot and Camel tones, with a Sand base.
